Job Description

A well-established California law firm is seeking a Litigation Associate to join its practice representing public entities, governmental agencies, and their employees in complex civil litigation matters throughout California.

This position is ideal for an attorney seeking sophisticated litigation work, substantial autonomy, direct client contact, and meaningful courtroom experience within a collaborative and respected firm environment.

Practice Areas Include:

  • Public entity defense
  • Constitutional and civil rights litigation
  • Law enforcement defense
  • Employment and personnel matters
  • Inverse condemnation and infrastructure litigation
  • High-exposure catastrophic injury matters
  • State and federal court litigation

This is not a traditional insurance defense practice. Attorneys handle sophisticated, high-stakes matters involving complex legal issues, substantial motion practice, direct client interaction, and significant litigation responsibility.

Responsibilities:

  • Independently manage litigation matters with partner oversight
  • Draft and argue motions, including dispositive motions
  • Handle written discovery and discovery-related motions
  • Take and defend depositions
  • Prepare matters for mediation, arbitration, and trial
  • Attend court appearances in state and federal courts
  • Communicate directly with clients, experts, and opposing counsel
  • Assist with litigation strategy and trial preparation

Qualifications

Required:

  • Active California Bar license
  • Civil litigation experience
  • Strong legal research and writing skills
  • Experience handling motions and discovery independently
  • Excellent analytical, advocacy, and communication skills

Preferred:

  • Experience representing public entities or governmental agencies
  • Federal court experience
  • Civil rights litigation experience
  • Employment litigation experience
  • Deposition experience
  • Trial or arbitration experience
